Wheat Broken

“Samba” a different form of wheat, which is broken into fine granules to make Porridge or Uppuma. It’s fibrous qualities make it one of the best food for diabetic persons. It’s a very wholesome and filling foods with lot of nutrients.

To Make Wheat Broken Uppma

Visalakshi Broken Wheat - 2 cups
Water - 2 cups
mixed Veggies - (Carrots, Beans, Sweetcorn, Green Peas)
Onion (chopped) - 1 no
Green Chillies (slit) - 3 nos
Ginger (finely chopped) - 1 inch
Curry leaves & Salt - As Needed
Sunflower Oil - 1 1/2 tbsp
Preparation Method
  • Clean and Wash the broken wheat. Drain and keep aside
  • Heat oil in the pressure cooker, when hot add mustard seeds to it. Allow it to splutter
  • Then add green chillies and curry leaves to it and saute for few seconds
  • Next add the onion to it and saute till the onion becomes light golden brown in colour. Add chopped veggies to it and saute for 2 Min's
  • Than add the broken wheat and water to it. Mix in salt and stir well
  • Pressure cook for 2 Whistles. Serve hot with coconut chutney or pickle
